FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

"Get a Second Chance with CarCoop"

Does CarCoop service all areas of Australia?

No. CarCoop currently services selected areas across Queensland (QLD), Victoria (VIC), New South Wales (NSW), and South Australia (SA). In most cases, we can only assist customers located within approximately 100–150 km of our offices. If you’re unsure whether your location is within our service area, simply contact our team on 1300 614 299 (option2) with your postcode, and we’ll be happy to check for you before you begin your application.

Does CarCoop offer electric and hybrid cars?

CarCoop prioritises low mileage and seeks to minimise wear and tear on our vehicles. For this reason, we do not currently offer electric or hybrid vehicles, which are popular among rideshare drivers whose business model typically involves high mileage.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. To get started with CarCoop, a small upfront deposit is required.

Hatchbacks and sedans start from $199 per week with a $789* deposit, while SUVs start from $239 per week with a $829* deposit. These payments include registration, insurance, servicing, and roadside assistance.

*Prices reflect the increased upfront deposit effective 7 April 2026.

If you’re ready to apply, you can do so online at https://www.carcoop.com.au/application/ or call us on 1300 614 299 (Option 2).

Can I still apply if I’m on a visa?

Yes. You may be eligible if you have at least two years remaining on your visa, are aged 21 or over, hold a P1 licence or higher, and earn a minimum net income of $800 per week.

Does CarCoop offer brand new cars?

No, CarCoop offers a selection of dependable, quality used vehicles that come with roadworthy certificates.

Does CarCoop approve everyone?

Our legal obligations and policies do not allow us to assist everyone, as a general guide we try to assist those who are 21 years old and above, hold a P1 drivers licence or above and earning at least $800 per week.

My only income is Centrelink, will I qualify for a car?

Due to government regulations, we may be unable to assist applicants whose sole income is from Centrelink. However, joint applications with a working partner or family member may be considered.

Please note, applicants must also have part-time or casual employment, or a business with an ABN, as we assess affordability using 90-day bank statements and payslips. We do not conduct credit checks.

To discuss your options, please contact us on 1300 614 299 (Option 2) or at applications@carcoop.com.au.

Does CarCoop run credit checks?

We don’t run credit checks. Instead, we carry out an affordability assessment using your last 90 days of bank statements and your two most recent payslips.

Will CarCoop issue credit?

No. All CarCoop contracts are paid in advance, this means that it is extremely important that you pay for your vehicle on time as per your payment schedule. Failure to pay on time may result in deactivation of your vehicle.

How much are the payments?

Currently, our vehicles range in price from $199 per week to $249 per week.

Can I choose my own vehicle?

Yes, but only from our own fleet and subject to the outcome of your affordability assessment.

What's included?

Your weekly payments include:

  • Registration

  • CTP Insurance

  • Comprehensive Insurance

  • 1 Scheduled Servicing Per Year

  • Roadside Assistance

How do tolls work with my CarCoop vehicle?
  • Set up a toll account before you drive. All CarCoop vehicles must have an active Linkt toll account in the driver’s name. Please create one for your state:

    • QLD – https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/accounts/brisbane

    • NSW – https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/accounts/sydney

    • VIC – https://www.linkt.com.au/accounts-and-passes/accounts/melbourne

  • Unpaid tolls = admin fees

If your toll account isn’t set up, or doesn’t have enough funds, unpaid toll notices come to CarCoop. We’ll nominate you as the driver and an administration fee will be charged for each unpaid toll.

  • Fees are in your contract

All toll-related fees and charges are outlined in your CarCoop lease agreement.

  • You’re responsible for your tolls

As the driver, you’re responsible for paying all tolls — whether or not your toll account is active at the time of travel.

The takeaway: To avoid extra fees, make sure your toll account is set up and always has funds available.

Can I own my vehicle sooner?

Yes, if your circumstances change and you would like to own your car sooner you can pay-out your rental contract and incur no penalties.

Can you tell me about the Pay-on-time Bonus?

The pay-on-time bonus is issued after 6 months of successful on-time payments. It is a reward for awesome clients and comes in the form of a variety of gift vouchers or cash deposits.

How long will the application process take?

The application itself should take approximately 30 minutes; it may then take the team 3 days to process your application to finality. We know it’s important to get you into a car as soon as we can, we will aim to complete the entire process within 1 week.

What documents do I need to provide?

We will need you to provide 100 points of identification, 2 payslips, 90 days of bank statements and any Centrelink statements.

Why do I need to enter my bank information on your website?

We understand that sharing financial information can feel sensitive, and your security is our top priority.

When you enter your banking details, we do not see or store your login credentials. This process is securely handled by BankStatements.com, a trusted third-party provider used widely across the industry.

BankStatements.com uses bank-level encryption to protect your information and does not store your credentials. It simply retrieves a read-only copy of your most recent 90 days of transaction history, which is then shared with us to help process your application.

At no point do we have access to your bank login details, and we cannot make any changes or transactions on your account.

How do you assess my application?

We look at your earnings, your expenses and your existing debt. This allows us to thoroughly assess your capacity to pay for the vehicle.

Can you tell me about what will happen when I collect my car?

If your application is successfully approved, we will make an appointment for you to visit the CarCoop Client Lounge. These appointments generally take 1 hour, they allow us time to review and sign the contract, create a client file, have a cup of tea and go over your vehicle. Our staff want to make sure you have a full understanding of the process and the vehicle so that you leave confident and happy.

Can I use the car for rideshare?

Unfortunately, we do not allow our cars to be used for rideshare or any similar purpose. We also have an allowed number of KMs that one can use within the contract term, and any KM exceeded will be charged accordingly.

Can I nominate a second driver?

Yes, however, please note that your vehicle may only be driven by anyone aged 21 or over, provided they hold a P1 licence or higher.

Can you tell me about the Referral Bonus?

Our aim is to provide you with superb customer service and a car that you love. If you tell your friends and family about us and they also sign up for a car you will receive a CarCoop Referral Bonus of $150. You can use this Referral Bonus as a credit at the end of your Rental Agreement, this will save you time and money allowing you to own your car sooner. The referred customer must successfully collect a vehicle and remain in it for a minimum of 3 months to qualify.

There is a problem with my car, what do I do?

You have a full 90 Day Warranty on your vehicle so please contact us as soon as any problem arises. We want to help you wherever we can, so please communicate with us regularly.

Can I terminate my agreement early?

Possibly. We want to work with you in every situation. If you are unable to meet the terms of your Agreement, please contact us immediately for assistance.

Is there a kilometre limit?

An allowance of 60,000KMs is allocated within the two years contractual period and 120,000 KMs for four years. If or when you exceed this allocation you will be charged at 17cents per Km.

Is the upfront deposit refundable?

The upfront deposit is not refundable and is paid toward the initial costs in securing the car including, but not limited to, documentation fees, administration costs, and vehicle preparation. If you decide not to move ahead due to valid reasons after payment of the upfront deposit, we can issue a refund of the amount paid, excluding $100 for the application fee.

Can new customers qualify for a 7-seater?

New customers can also qualify for 7-seaters. However, due to very limited availability, we prioritise offering them to existing customers who are eligible for an upgrade. We maintain a waiting list for all qualified customers, both new and existing. In many cases, since approvals are only valid for 30 days and the wait time for a 7-seater can exceed that period, customers often choose a different vehicle first and then wait until they become eligible for an upgrade.

How do I upgrade my car?

To be eligible for an upgrade, you must have completed at least 12 months on your contract and have a minimum of 6 months of successful direct debit payments.

To discuss your options, please call us on 1300 614 299 (Option 2) or email applications@carcoop.com.au

What if I can’t make a payment?

If a scheduled payment is missed, your vehicle may be remotely disabled until the account is brought up to date. Continued missed payments without communication may result in repossession.

We understand that unexpected situations can arise. If you anticipate difficulty making a payment, please contact our Accounts Team as soon as possible on 1300 614 299 (Option 1) or at payments@carcoop.com.au. We’re here to work with you and discuss options to help avoid disruptions.
